There is nothing wrong with Walmart selling firearms. They do not sell handguns (which is slightly annoying when it means you have to travel great distances in order to fine one). They only sell shotguns and rifles(remember muzzle loaders are not firearms). Of these they are ALL for hunting. None are "self defense" guns or "assault weapons." So in the scope of firearms dealers they are what walmart is to all other types of shopping: utility and no real specialty items.
The reason gun control is so "controversial" is that people are scared of guns. They have no concept of how they opperate. I know people that would rather touch a live rattlesnake than an unloaded firearm. I mean there are obviously extenuating circumstances. If I am out in the middle of nowhere during hunting season I am not going to be spooky of someone carrying a shotgun, but if I am in the city and someone walks by with a shotgun slung over their shoulder it is going to raise suspicion lol
