Long...long...time ago in a galaxy far,far away there was a department store called "Ames".They brought out a smaller successful chain called "Hills".
I used to shop @ Hills before any notion of Wal-Mart.Ames thought they can convert all the Hills stores and keep the devoted everyday customers.
Speaking for myself, the Ames products are "not" as high quality as Hills.I made add the selections sucked. Ames ended up going out of business within months.
***The stores they brought became a financial drag.***
The same can applies to other acquisitions. Decisions can be profitable.They can be financial disasters.
